EXHIBITIONS & EVENTS

Sense of Scale by John O'Connell Closes November 10

Sense of Scale by John O'Connell closes at Artspace 304 on November 10.  This exhibition explores landscape photography through the theme of scale with subjects ranging from miniature insects and plants to the vast expanses of the cosmos. O'Connell's work portrays time through camera exposures ranging from motion-freezing fast shutter speeds to prolonged six-month exposure times. Come enjoy the whimsical, wild, and wonderful within O'Connell's expansive exhibition!

Diurnal Rhythms at The Corridor Gallery

A companion exhibition by John O'Connell is on view now at The Corridor Gallery. Diurnal Rhythms showcases Southern Illinois landscapes through daytime and night-time photography. The Corridor Gallery is lined with various scenes captured at different times of day, displaying contrast and balance between the presence and absence of light.

The Corridor Gallery is located in the Carbondale Civic Center. View the exhibition Monday-Friday from 8:30am – 5pm. To purchase artwork, contact Artspace 304 at 618.457.5100, email exhibits@artspace304.org.

On view in The Neil and Mary Ellen Media and Performance Gallery

Confluence Hymn: Listening to Little Egypt’s Rivers by Nick Ginsburg is on view in the Neil and Mary Ellen Dillard Media and Performance Gallery until November 17. Confluence Hymn is an audio-video installation exploring the ecologically and sonically distinctive river environments of southern Illinois on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers.

Coming soon to Artspace 304: Outskirts

Our upcoming exhibition, Outskirts by Doug Johnson and Ann E. Coulter, is on view at Artspace 304 from November 18 - December 23. In Outskirts, Johnson and Coulter channel their location of central Illinois to explore the landscape of the Midwest through different styles of painting. Coulter’s nature-based paintings and drawings are intricately detailed allowing the viewer to become immersed in wooded areas. Johnson’s landscapes investigate the complexity of color and light across Midwest plains and townscapes. Join us for a meet and greet with the artists at the opening reception on Saturday, November 18 from 3-5pm.
