Years in the Making:
The Art of Aldon Addington

October 28-January 6

Reception: November 12, 12-3pm

Explore a special retrospective of Aldon Addington, a renowned sculptor and educator based in Southern Illinois, that spans three gallery spaces in the region. View a collection of Aldon's sculptures at Artspace 304 and John A. Logan College (Carterville), as well as photographs of Aldon's large-scale sculptural works at the Corridor Gallery in the Carbondale Civic Center. 

Years in the Making: The Art of Aldon Addington will be on view at Artspace 304 through January 6. Receptions will be held at John A. Logan College on November 5 from 11am-1pm and at Artspace 304 on November 12 from 12-3pm. The receptions will also recognize the installation of permanent sculptures on the grounds of Artspace 304 and JALC. 

 
 

Boost your immune system before the holidays!

We're partnering with SIH Wellness on Wheels to host a walk-up vaccination clinic on Monday, November 7 from 11am-1pm in the parking lot of First Christian Church (306 W. Monroe). There will be 3rd COVID boosters available, as well as vaccines for the flu and pneumonia (Prevnar 20). Patients will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis; no registration necessary!

Thank you to Antonio Martinez for designing a regional poster campaign and to Arts Alliance Illinois for helping us raise awareness of COVID booster availability in Southern IL! We are grateful for our partners at SIH, First Christian Church, and Walmart Pharmacy for making this event possible. We'll be sharing more of Antonio's designs from his Acorazar y Amor (To Protect/Shield and To Love) series, as well as and a unique poster designed by Najjar Abdul-Musawwir in the coming weeks.

Arts Alliance Illinois is partnering with Artspace 304 to host a virtual listening session for the Southern IL region on November 14 from 1-3pm to help guide their policy agenda and advocacy campaigns in 2023. Help us advocate for the arts in our region by registering for the listening session and sharing this opportunity with other artists, organizations, educators, and friends of the arts!

Poetry Out Loud helps high school students master public speaking skills and learn about literary history through a series of poetry recitation competitions. 

Registration is open for schools and organizations interested in hosting a Poetry Out Loud competition in their community! The program can be completed in 2-3 weeks and fulfills NCTE, Common Core, and National Core Arts Standards. Finalists of local competitions are eligible to compete at the Southern IL Regional Competition, hosted in February 2023 by Artspace 304, before moving onto state and national competitions.

After School Art Club
Thursdays
Wander Community Art Studio

Starting November 3, Wander Community Art Studio (Du Quoin) is hosting an after school art club on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30! Art Club is designed for 1st-4th graders. No pre-registration is required. 

SIUC Iron Pour
November 5
SIUC Foundry Complex

Experience the firey fun of iron casting and make your own cast iron artwork with scratchblocks. The free, public event will also feature Raku firing, t-shirt printing, and an exhibition of cast metalwork at the Foundry's Shake-Out Gallery

 

Local Author Fair

Carbondale Public Library

Stop by between 2-4pm to support local authors! Books will be available for purchase and authors will be on hand to answer questions and sign books. For more information, contact Jennifer Robertson at 618-457-0354. 

Reception: The Exposition by DeSande R

Longbranch Cafe & Bakery

Featuring a range of portraits by DeSande R, The Exposition will be on view 11/3-12/24. A reception will be held from 6-8pm on 11/5.

Hansel & Gretel: Revisited

Anna Arts Center

Head to the Anna Arts Center for a children's musical production of Hansel and Gretel: Revisited. Performances will be held at 7pm on November 11-12 and at 2pm on November 13. 

John A. Logan College AutumnFest

Marion Oasis Entertainment Center

Shop 120+ vendors of arts, crafts, and specialty foods! The 46th annual event will also feature entertainment and artist demonstrations (full schedule TBA). 

Jazz at The Varsity

Back on the balcony stage are Carbondale favorites The Jewels, with Union County Sal, Joe Palermo, and special guest Tawl Paul. Tickets are $15 in advance or at the door.

The Lights at Cedarhurst

November 19-December 31 | Cedarhurst Center for the Arts

One million+ holiday lights will transform the museum campus into a winter wonderland with 10 dazzling light features installed along a 3/4 mile walking loop. Enjoy food trucks, fire pits, seasonal drinks, and more! Tickets ($5-15) also include admission to Cedarhurst's 5 galleries.
