Final week on view!

This is the last chance to view Years in the Making: The Art of Aldon Addington at Artspace 304 and The Corridor Gallery at the Carbondale Civic Center! Aldon Addington is a renowned sculptor and educator based in Southern Illinois. The exhibition, on view until January 6th, features a retrospective of sculptural works and ephemera from throughout Addington's career.

Artspace 304 is also grateful to receive a permanent sculpture from Aldon Addington. Installed at the Walnut Street entrance, the sculpture is a lasting and welcoming celebration of the arts in Southern Illinois.

Coming soon to your local high school: Poetry Out Loud! Since 2005, POL has provided more than 4 million high school students with opportunities to master public speaking skills and deepen their appreciation of poetry through a series of annual recitation contests. 

High schools in Southern Illinois will hold Poetry Out Loud contests throughout January. Finalists of school competitions will compete at the Regional Contest, hosted in February 2023 by Artspace 304, before moving on to state and national competitions. More information about the Regional Contest to come!

From January 7 - February 2, we are preparing our Main Gallery for a new slate of contemporary exhibitions. 

Shop 304 will remain open for normal business hours (Weds-Sat, 12-5pm). 

Our hours of operation will be changing during winter starting in January. Mondays and Tuesdays we will be open by appointment only. Please call (618) 457-5100 or email info@artspace304.org to schedule.

We will be open Wednesday-Saturday from 12-5pm.

Opportunity for K-12 Students

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum & the Illinois State Board of Education are hosting a statewide art contest for K-12 students. Students should respond to the theme "Home Is..." by creating a 2D piece (no larger than 11"x14"). Winning artworks will be displayed in the Museum and Best in Show will be featured on a poster to celebrate Illinois Arts Education Week in March. Apply by January 12 »

The Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art at Southeastern IL College is hosting a call for artworks that express and highlight Black history and culture. Artists can submit up to 3 entries of any mediums.

Perspective Gallery is accepting submissions for their 13th annual juried, international exhibition of fine art photography. There is a $40 entry fee for submitting 5 images that have been created within the past 5 years.

Grassroots is accepting submissions of up to 5 written/visual works from Carbondale community members. Entries of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, artwork, & social justice advocacy are eligible for Jon Tribble Memorial Awards.

Cedarhurst Center for the Arts is seeking submissions for the Shrode Fine Art & Craft Competition and Exhibit. Artists 18+ living in southern IL are invited to submit 3 recent works with a $25 entry fee.

Abstract Ink Mug Workshop

Sunset Painting Party

Join Color Me Happy to make an acrylic sunset painting. No painting experience necessary. Registration and fee ($20) are required.

Mother of All Movies Fest

Historic Miners Theatre

Head to Collinsville for 3 days of film screenings and networking opportunities for media creators from the Midwest. The Artist United Network is also accepting submissions of feature films, shorts, skits, documentaries, and music videos; for more information, visit Artist United Network.

The Thread That Binds

View a solo exhibition of printed works by artist Luca Cruzat in the Shrode Art Center at Cedarhurst. An exhibition preview will be held on January 14 starting at 6:30pm, with an artist chat at 7:30pm. 

Kids Craft: Snow Flake Lantern

Wander Community Art Studio

Every Saturday at 10:30am, Wander Community Art Studio hosts free drop-in crafts and story time for kids. Children ages 3+ are welcome to join the activities; no registration necessary.
