Outskirts on view until Saturday, December 23 

Outskirts by Doug Johnson and Ann E. Coulter, is on view at Artspace 304 from November 18 - December 23. In Outskirts, Johnson and Coulter channel their location of central Illinois to explore the landscape of the Midwest through different styles of painting. Coulter’s nature-based paintings and drawings are intricately detailed allowing the viewer to become immersed in wooded areas. Johnson’s landscapes investigate the complexity of color and light across Midwest plains and townscapes.

 
 
 

2024 Southern Arts Fund: Apply Now!

$50,000 to be Distributed to Individual Artists or Arts Organizations 

 

Applications are open for 2024 Southern Arts Fund! Recipients of Southern Arts Fund (SAF) include individual artists and nonprofit organizations from Southern Illinois that propose events and programs with a significant community outreach component. 

This year, Southern Arts Fund is distributing $50,000 with individual grants up to $3,500. All SAF projects and programs are open to the public and aim to bring diverse arts and cultural experiences to the region. Applications will be reviewed and recommended for grant consideration by a panel of judges from various regional organizations and professional backgrounds. Applications must be submitted electronically and will be accepted through January 24, 2024.

The 2024 Southern Arts Fund is made possible by funding from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, the National Endowment for the Arts, and regional donors.

 
 
 

 

The Artspace Winter Market is in full swing at 607 S Illinois Ave. Come ready to shop for the holidays and get a sneak peak at the progress at our second location! One portion of the building is ready for our holiday pop up shop, while the rest is under construction for our future makerspace. Artspace Winter Market features a curated retail experience with holiday gifts, home decor, kitchen goods, jewelry, stationary, accessories, kids toys, books and more. Items are sourced from small businesses both regional and national, as well as faire-trade.

We will be open with a limited schedule through mid-January. Our business hours are Thursdays from 11am - 4pm, Fridays from 11 am - 6pm and Saturdays from 11am - 4pm. Metered parking available around the back of the building.

 
 

Shop 304 is the one-stop shop for unique handmade gifts this holiday season. We have ceramics, glass, original paintings and more, all by made local southern Illinois artists and craftspeople. Shop 304 is located in our main gallery at 304 W Walnut St. We are open Wednesday-Saturday from 12-5pm.

Members of the SIU Clarinet Studio, led by Visiting Professor and Distinguished Scholar Eric Mandat, will present a recital Wednesday, December 6 at 7pm in OBF Recital Hall at SIUC.

 
 

Creative Futures 2024: High School Art and Design Competition

The School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is pleased to announce Creative Futures, our inaugural statewide high school art and design competition. Illinois high school art and design teachers are invited to submit works by no more than five (5) current junior or senior students from their schools for consideration. Accepted entries will be featured in an online exhibition from February 16, 2024 to February 14, 2025. More information at creativefutures.artcall.org
