Aldon Addington is a renowned sculptor and educator based in Southern Illinois. The exhibition features a retrospective of sculptural works and ephemera from throughout Addington's career, including 10 new sculptures added to the collection today!

Artspace 304 is also incredibly grateful to receive a permanent sculpture from Aldon Addington. Installed at the Walnut Street entrance, the sculpture is a lasting and welcoming celebration of the arts in Southern Illinois.

There's still time to register for Poetry Out Loud! Since 2005, POL has provided more than 4 million high school students with opportunities to master public speaking skills and deepen their appreciation of poetry through a series of annual recitation contests. 

Registration is open for high schools interested in hosting a Poetry Out Loud competition in January! Teachers have access to engaging lesson plans and an online poetry anthology. Finalists of local competitions are eligible to compete at the Southern IL Regional Competition, hosted in February 2023 by Artspace 304, before moving onto state and national competitions.

In the News: Foreground Rural Initiative to Support Cultural Programs in 19+ Illinois Counties! 

Artspace 304 is honored to be one of 27 inaugural grantee partners of the Foreground Rural Initiative with Illinois Humanities. This exciting, three-year initiative provides critical funding and resources to expand access to arts and humanities in rural and small towns in Illinois.

ARTIST OPPORTUNITIES

The Stage Company is hosting auditions for the upcoming production of Clue! Actors 15+ should prepare for cold readings at the audition. Clue will be performed at the Varsity Center on January 27-29 & February 2-5.

The Gallery of Fine Arts at Fontbonne University is hosting a free call for artworks that are inspired by religion and spirituality. Spiritual Visions is an juried exhibition that celebrates the diversity of all religious beliefs.

Perspective Gallery is accepting submissions for their 13th annual juried, international exhibition of fine art photography. There is a $40 entry fee for submitting 5 images that have been created within the past 5 years.

SIU Holiday Craft Sale

Head to the first floor of SIUC's Student Center to browse an array of handmade items and local products from 80 vendors. Student organizations will also sell goods to benefit their departments and groups. Free admission & parking!

 

The Photography of Prehistoric & Natural Wonders of Southern Illinois

Hear from local author and photographer Mike Chervinko about his experiences photographing in Southern Illinois. A Q&A and book signing will follow the talk. The event is also available to attend virtually. 

Quilted Ornament Workshop

Learn to make a no-sew ornament for the holidays! Led by Sarah Junk and Crafted Murphysboro, the class will last 2 hours and costs $20 (all materials included). Pre-registration is required.

Purchase handmade crafts, art, and food items while supporting local nonprofit organizations! The 17th annual event is sponsored by the social action committee of the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship. A donation of non-perishable goods is requested for admission; all food donations will benefit regional food assistance programs.

The matinee (12/11) will feature a pre-show discussion of Little Women by Associate Professor and Writing Studies Director Jane Elizabeth Dougherty.

View a retrospective of oil, watercolor, acrylic, collage, ink, and charcoal work created by Joan Skiver-Levy. The exhibit is also a fundraiser, with 50% of sales donated to Little Egypt Arts Association.

The Lights at Cedarhurst

One million+ holiday lights will transform the museum campus into a winter wonderland with 10 dazzling light features installed along a 3/4 mile walking loop. Enjoy food trucks, fire pits, seasonal drinks, and more! Tickets ($5-15) also include admission to Cedarhurst's 5 galleries.
